Digital Vanitas Storyboard Project/Mini Fits of Inspiration
A few weeks ago I promised myself that I was to start making digital pieces/collages on a small scale to help build a gradual story board…And yes, I am still refining the whole premise.
Anyways, where were we? Yes, I had suggested the name Nigel for the character.
Concepts coming to mind:
Nigel

Imaginative, quiet, but playful - Peter Pan mixed with….
Scared of something? vs. hiding something?
He has a map hidden in his vintage antelope rug, that leads to some sort of dystopian memory….?
Now I’d like to introduce a new character, a pretty but boyish looking girl named Mabel Fitzgerald. She looks sort of like Nigel.
The Giver, A Wrinkle in Time, Battle Royale
Wes Andersen
Thoughts: How to connect this to his power minerals duvet?
So, I made a tiny digital vanitas…Gemstone Power Duvet - Thank god for the instant gratification provided by photoshop. If I didn’t have this skill, than I would’ve found a way to get this custom made, and regret it later — all to satisfy these misplaced material urges. Nostalgia for lack of a better word can be self-indulgent and can trigger distracting behaviors.
So, today, I’m starting a semi-long term Storyboard Project.  A small collage piece for a bigger narrative. From now on every time I feel a fit of inspiration, which I must let pass on. I will allow myself to make one digital detail that can be used to express the story/mood/memory/idea I had in mind at the time.
At the end of the project. Let’s say 3-6-12 monthes from now. I can take these pieces, I’m referring to as vanitas (still life objects, that I am digitally  manipulating) and use them as pieces to create a unified story with them…
Here are the concepts that came to mind:
Childhood memories of being both curious by science and magic stones.
Summertime in New England, Nighttime in Southern California
Being so bored that you had to make up games with yourself, and pretending that stories had the power to make things happen.
The childish idea that I have all the stones, therefore I have all the power, and this blanket will protect me from all negative energy.
The name Nigel - and voila! I have introduced the name of my first character in the story board.

Springtime in San Francisco
Forget Monday blues, what I’m feeling is more like Spring fever. It all started this morning when Emeline my accomplice from highschool  posted a picture of her cute sandals and shorts this morning on instagram…and I realized, damn, the seasons changed again on the East coast.
Around this time of the year, when our unruly minds would wonder off with that butterfly passing by our class window. (To be honest, more than our minds, Emeline and I skipped A LOT of class)…
Now in California, the only true reminder of the season I have are my taxes, which I still haven’t done, because well, I illustrated this photo of my friend Margaret instead.
Oh well, c’est la vie…
Ooops, finally got the business cards printed
